You may sigh, this just sounds like Spa sweet talk..well try this long time traditional bodywork for yourself. Hawaiian Lomilomi by it’s very nature embodies Hawaii and is born of it’s essence. Lomilomi simply means massage in hawaiian and it’s whole body long lovely luxurious strokes perhaps make it stand out from other styles such as Swedish or Thai. The body is soothed silky with oil, typically, so that the massaging movements may dance with and along the body. The rhythms of the Ocean and her healing motion of lulling and enveloping circularity are the opening expansiveness of tropical ocean energized movement and so makes this massage powerful, peaceful, and delightful.
As I began my career as a bodyworker in dance professional training and performance, I came to understand and integrate the teachings of my Kumus (those who hold and share the ancestral knowledge of the hawaiian healing arts) as a dancer does.
I aim to expressly become the song of Hawaii in my work.
I study the traditional techniques of Lomilomi along with understanding the hawaiian healing system, hawaiian language, and the holistic sacred art that is the heart of this aloha medicine tradition. I am trained in Kahu Abraham Kawai’i Kahuna’s Lomi Ka’elele or Temple Style Lomi lineage as well as “Big Island Lomi”: a lineage passed through Auntie Margaret to Kahuna Harry Uhane Jim containing his current teachings of Ho’oponopono and po’o. I work respectfully with the ancestral knowledge that is shared with me. I have deep and growing reverence of hawaiian kahunas and I of course bring my poet Celtic healing arts ancestry and my westcoast Canadiana Diana into the roots and life of everything I am today.
You needn’t be shy to try this new massage style and experience a relaxation and nurturance that is cellular deep and pure with all due respect to a physical therapy clinical approach. This is like Yoga is to stretching. The peaceful atmosphere, the breath engaged for true tension release and the reminders that you are heart and soul as well as mind and body.
